Soroti District has launched mechanised maintenance works on the 9.5-kilometre Soroti–Lalle District Road at a cost of UGX 178.8 million, in a move aimed at improving road connectivity and access for communities along the route.
The launch, held on Monday, was officiated by Soroti Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Hajji Imran Muluga, alongside District LCV Chairperson Hon. Owiny Bob, members of the District Executive Committee, the District Security Committee, the Principal Assistant Secretary (PAS) representing the Chief Administrative Officer, district technical staff, sub-county leaders and other stakeholders.
The project is funded by the Government of Uganda through the Road Maintenance/Rehabilitation Grant and is being implemented under the Force Account approach using machine-based maintenance.
The works are intended to improve the condition and functionality of the road, ease movement of people and agricultural produce, and facilitate the transportation of goods and services between communities served by the road.
During the launch, district leaders and the security team stressed the need for proper supervision, accountability and timely execution of the works, noting that effective management of the project would help ensure that the public funds allocated to the road deliver tangible benefits to residents of Soroti District.
The Soroti–Lalle road serves communities whose livelihoods depend significantly on agriculture, making reliable road access important for the movement of produce to markets and access to essential services.
