The Ministry of Local Government is using the Uganda National Youth Opportunity and Innovation Conference to take its programmes and services closer to young leaders, explaining government initiatives and responding to questions on how they are accessed and implemented at the local-government level.
At the two day conference at Golf Course Hotel Kampala, Ministry officials are presenting information on the Parish Development Model (PDM) alongside the PDM guidelines and other Ministry documents outlining government programmes and services.
Officials have emphasised the need for youth leaders to encourage fellow young people to embrace the Parish Development Model, pointing out that 30 percent is meant for the youth.
They say the leaders have a key role to play in taking information about government programmes back to their communities, particularly to young people who may not be aware of the opportunities available to them.
The exhibition has also provided a platform for the participants to engage Ministry officials directly, raising questions and seeking clarification on the implementation of government programmes and the responsibilities of local governments.
The two day conference brings together youth leaders and other stakeholders to discuss opportunities and innovation, with a focus on strengthening young people’s participation in local government and community development.
