WEST NILE SUB-REGION HOSTS STAKEHOLDER WORKSHOP TO STRENGTHEN ROLE OF PRODUCTION AND COMMERCIAL OFFICERS IN PDM IMPLEMENTATION

West Nile — The Ministry of Local Government, through the Local Economic Development [LED] Department, has kicked off a two-day stakeholder workshop to strengthen the role of Production and Commercial Officers in extension services and management of agro-processing facilities for effective implementation of the Parish Development Model [PDM] in the West Nile Sub-region.

The workshop, which is taking place from 27th to 28th October 2026, has brought together Production Officers, Commercial Officers, District Leaders and key partners from all Local Governments in West Nile.

The Ministry notes that while PDM has made strides with the Parish Revolving Fund, the weak extension service delivery and poor management of agro-processing facilities remain major bottlenecks to household incomes.

The workshop objectives include:

  • Strengthening effective agricultural extension approaches for farmer empowerment in the West Nile context.
  • Enhancing performance monitoring, data management, reporting and accountability for PDM results at Local Government and Parish levels.
  • Discussing the role of market-oriented agricultural extension in attainment of LED.
  • Building partnerships for improving extension services and agro-processing management for job creation.

The West Nile workshop is part of a nationwide rollout by the Ministry of Local Government to retool frontline officers as government moves into the sustainability phase of PDM, which seeks to ensure that PDM funds create tangible jobs and household incomes through value addition and proper extension.
