The technical advisory committee (TAC) meeting of the local climate adaptive living facility (LoCAL)-UGANDA.

The ministry of local government is chairing the TAC meeting involving stakeholders (MoLG, MoFPED, MoWE, NPA, OPM,NEMA) that are implementing the LoCAL mechanism/ facility in the 14 district local governments of Kasese, Nebbi, Nwoya, Zombo, Kitgum, Bulambuli, Nabilatuk, Nakapiripirit, Moroto, Kotido, Agago, Koboko, Kikuube and Kiboga districts.

The Permanent Secretary (MoLG), Mr. Ben Kumumanya, informed the meeting that, in regard to climate change, Uganda is ranked 32nd among the most vulnerable countries and 172nd among least ready countries to reduce climate change effects. Implying that Uganda has great need for investment and innovation to adapt to climate change.

He also said that climate change poses a substantial barrier to Uganda’s efforts to achieving sustainable and social economic transformation and called for urgency for action. This far, Government of Uganda conducted the first budget call circular for the preparation of BFPs and budget estimates for the FY 26/27, to include considerations on climate change risk reduction.

He urged members to position LoCAL to become a hub for knowledge sharing, collaboration and best practices in implementing locally led adaptation interventions to promote government policy and directives.
