The Assistant Commissioner in charge of Human Resource Management at the Ministry of Local Government Mr. Nelson Kahandi has called for stronger controls and professionalism in Local Government Service commissions and Human Resource Units to reduce corruption in recruitment.
While addressing Heads of HR and secretaries to Service Commissions this afternoon, Mr. Kahandi told participants to ‘follow the job requirements to the letter’ during recruitment.
He also called for standardised systems in scoring candidates during recruitment.
The Assistant Commisioner also presented key highlights of the IGG report for FY 2023/2024 which indicated that 85% of Local Government jobs were reportedly obtained through bribery, undermining merit based recruitment causing legal issues, and harm to the reputation of local governments.
