Bunyangabu- Residents of Nyakigumba Town Council have stopped Hon. Balaam’s car to seek help, raising concerns over alleged corruption, embezzlement, and neglected public services in the area.
Rather than a confrontation, residents said they flagged down the minister’s convoy because they felt they had no other avenue to have their issues heard.
Community members told Hon. Balaam that misuse of public funds has become a major problem in the town council.
“Corruption and embezzlement is too much,” one resident said. “We keep seeing budgets for projects but nothing changes on the ground.”
They appealed to him to intervene and push for accountability from local leaders.
Residents also highlighted the solar street lighting project, saying the solar street lights that were installed have never worked since they were put in place.
Another pressing issue raised was the condition of the town market. Residents told Hon. Balaam that the market has no toilets, which is affecting both vendors and customers.
“People come to buy and sell but there is nowhere to use the toilet,” a market vendor said. “It’s embarrassing and unhealthy.”
The residents asked Hon. Balaam to help follow up on the funds allocated to Nyakigumba and to ensure that projects are completed and functional.
