The Minister of Local Government, Hon. Barugahara Balaam Ateenyi, has concluded the Rwenzori Regional Anti-Corruption Campaign, which covered Bunyangabu, Kasese and Bundibugyo Districts. The campaign was conducted in implementation of H.E. the President’s Directive on Exposing and Eliminating Corruption in Uganda.
During the engagements, the Minister conducted inspections of Government projects and service-delivery facilities and received complaints from citizens concerning the management of public resources, implementation of Government programmes and service delivery.
The concerns raised during the campaign have been documented and will be followed up by the relevant authorities. Matters requiring investigation have been referred to the appropriate institutions for action in accordance with the law.
The Minister emphasised that the anti-corruption campaign is aimed at protecting public resources and ensuring that Government funds deliver intended services to the people. He reiterated that all persons implicated in allegations will be accorded due process and that action will be taken against those found responsible for wrongdoing.
The Ministry of Local Government will continue working with relevant Government institutions to follow up the issues raised and ensure corrective action is taken to strengthen accountability, transparency and service delivery.
