As part of the National Cleaning Day activities, Mukono Municipal Council, Inner Wheel Club of Mukono and other stakeholders joined forces to promote road safety by re-painting and marking a zebra crossing between Sombe supermarket and Church of Uganda Hospital
The initiative, led by Inner Wheel Club of Mukono, saw members of the club, Deputy Town clerk Mr Magemeso Moses, Deputy Mayor Hon Fiibi Faith, chad foundation, participate in the re-painting this zebra crossing and sensitising the public on the proper use of road-crossing facilities. The activity was led by Ms. Nakato Easter, President of Inner Wheel Club of Mukono and Headteacher of Ssekiboobo Primary School.
The initiative by Inner wheels, Mukono Municipal Council and the Uganda Police is aimed at creating safer crossing points for pedestrians, especially around busy public facilities and roads.
The Municipal leadership commended Inner Wheel Club of Mukono for coming up with this Initaiative. Hon. Fiibi Faith Babirye Deputy Mayor appreciated the club for this initiative and called for increased public sensitisation on proper road use, particularly among motorists and boda boda riders.
The marking exercise was also led by Commissioner of Police Ms. Kibwika Sarah, who emphasized the importance of clearly marked pedestrian crossing points in reducing road accidents and improving safety for pedestrians, patients, attendants, school children and other road users.
The re-painting of zebra crossings during National Cleaning Days demonstrates that keeping Mukono clean goes beyond sweeping and collecting garbage, it also means creating safe, orderly and people, friendly public spaces.
Mukono Municipal Council calls upon all motorists, boda boda riders and pedestrians to respect road signs and zebra crossings as we work together to make Mukono town safer for everyone.
