The MoLG,with support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) under the Spotlight Initiative 2.0, is strengthening Local Council Courts (LCCs) in 5 districts to improve community-level access to justice, particularly for women, girls&other vulnerable groups
The initiative brings together the official handover of equipment and toolkits to 50 Model Local Council Courts in Yumbe, Gulu, Oyam, Nebbi and Madi-Okollo, alongside training of 15 LCCs on key areas including Gender-Based Violence (GBV), Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), case management and referral, record keeping, access to justice, and accountability.
The official launch and handover is being held in Yumbe District, where representatives from the five districts are also presenting updates on the distribution, utilisation and safeguarding of the equipment provided.
Following the launch, Ministry teams will conduct two-day training sessions for the selected LCCs across the five districts ie Gulu,Yumbe,Oyam,Nebbi&Madi-Okollo , reaching approximately 190 participants.
The intervention is aimed at strengthening the capacity of Local Council Courts while enhancing accountability, effective use of the equipment provided and access to justice at community level.
