MASAKA CITY – Hon. Barugahara Balaam and Hon. Justine Nameere have visited Musali Village in Yendo, Masaka City, following persistent complaints from residents about a woman known in the area as a traditional healer who is accused of unlawfully taking people’s property.
The visit came after concerned residents reported that the woman had allegedly been acquiring their belongings under questionable circumstances, prompting widespread concern within the community. According to local residents, several victims presented documents signed by the Local Council I (LC I) chairperson, raising questions about the role of local leadership in the matter.
Following the ministers’ intervention and preliminary inquiries, both the traditional healer and the LC I chairperson were arrested to allow police to investigate the allegations further.
Residents told the ministers that the woman had previously been arrested on several occasions over similar allegations. However, they claimed she had repeatedly been released under circumstances they could not explain, leading many to believe that she had influential individuals protecting her from prosecution.
The community expressed fear and frustration, saying the repeated releases had discouraged victims from reporting cases and created an atmosphere of intimidation. Many appealed to the government to ensure that justice is served and that the investigation is conducted fairly and transparently.
Hon. Barugahara Balaam and Hon. Justine Nameere assured residents that the matter would be handled according to the law and pledged that security agencies would thoroughly investigate the allegations. They urged members of the public to remain calm, cooperate with investigators, and continue reporting any information that could assist in the case.
