Bugiri — Hon. Balaam, has visited Bugiri General Hospital where he interacted with medical personnel, patients and residents to assess service delivery.
During his tour of the hospital, the Minister asked patients whether they were being charged for medical services. The patients told him they receive treatment free of charge, a response that left him impressed with the hospital’s management.
“The fact that patients are not asked to pay for services is commendable. This is what government health facilities are meant to do,” Hon. Balaam said.
The Minister also toured the sanitation facilities and found the toilets full. However, CESPOL cesspool emptier trucks were at the scene at the time of his visit to empty them. He emphasized the need for consistent hygiene and sanitation maintenance in public health facilities.
Hon. Balaam also noted that the hospital was heavily congested, comparing the crowded corridors and wards to Owino Market. The hospital in-charge explained that the congestion is due to the high patient load from across the Busoga sub-region, but revealed that the hospital has already received funds from the government and is set for expansion.
The expansion project is expected to decongest the facility and improve the quality of health services for residents of Bugiri and neighbouring districts.
