MASAKA CITY: The Government of Uganda has stepped up the implementation of H.E. the President’s directive to expose and eliminate corruption, with Masaka City hosting a one-day meeting that brought together district leaders, security agencies, accountability institutions, and other key stakeholders to strengthen the fight against graft.
The meeting forms part of the nationwide implementation of the President’s directive aimed at exposing corruption, enhancing accountability, promoting transparency, and improving service delivery across local governments.
Presiding over the engagement, the Minister of Local Government, Hon. Barugahara Balaam Ateenyi, has emphasized that the government’s anti-corruption campaign is focused on action and measurable results rather than rhetoric.
“Today, we have not come for flowers; we have come to clean the city,” Hon. Balaam said, reaffirming the government’s commitment to eliminating corruption and ensuring public resources are used for their intended purpose.
He is joined by the Minister of State for Local Government, Hon. Justine Nameere, Minister of State for Health, MP’s, officials from the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, the Ministry of Local Government officials, representatives from various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), security agencies, and members of the media.
The meeting provides a platform for district leaders and government officials to discuss practical strategies for exposing corrupt practices, strengthening accountability mechanisms, and enhancing transparency in public institutions. Participants also explore ways to improve service delivery through effective oversight and collaboration among government agencies and citizens.
The Masaka City engagement is part of a broader nationwide campaign aimed at operationalizing H.E. the President’s directive and fostering a united national effort to eliminate corruption and promote good governance across the country.
