Isingiro Officials Summoned Over Shoddy Shs5.7 Billion Road Project

ISINGIRO DISTRICT – Hon. Balaam Barugahara Ateenyi, has directed the Natural Resources Officer and the District Community Development Officer in Isingiro District to record statements with the State House Anti-Corruption Unit following complaints over the alleged poor-quality construction of a district road project valued at Shs5.7 billion.

The directive follows growing public concern about the quality of the road works, with residents alleging that the project was poorly executed despite the substantial amount of public funds invested.

Speaking during the engagement, Hon. Balaam emphasized that all officers involved in the project would be held accountable. He also revealed that the district engineer, who has since been transferred to the Ministry of Education and Sports, will be recalled to explain why he certified and signed off the allegedly substandard road works as having been satisfactorily completed.

The minister stressed that no public official would be shielded from investigations, noting that every individual responsible for supervising, approving, or implementing the project must account for their role.

The State House Anti-Corruption Unit is expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the execution of the road project and establish whether there was negligence, abuse of office, or mismanagement of public funds.

The Shs5.7 billion road project is now at the center of scrutiny as authorities seek to ensure accountability and value for taxpayers’ money.
