MASAKA CITY, 15 October 2026.
The State Minister for Local Government, Hon. Justine Nameere Nsubuga, has urged Local Government leaders to move beyond meetings and resolutions and focus on delivering tangible results that improve the lives of the communities they serve.
The call was contained in a speech delivered on her behalf by Ms. Ruth Gyayo, Principal Inspector – District Inspection, during the closure of the three-day Induction of Local Government Councils at the Masaka City Mayor’s Chambers on Thursday.
In her message, Hon. Nameere emphasised that the success of Local Governments should not be measured merely by the number of meetings held or resolutions passed, but by the quality of decisions made, effective oversight and improvements in service delivery.
The State Minister also reiterated the importance of accountability and the fight against corruption, stressing that public resources must be protected and utilised for their intended purposes.
She further called for constructive working relationships between political leaders and technical officers, emphasising the need for each to respect their respective responsibilities under the law and resolve disagreements through established institutional mechanisms.
Hon. Nameere urged councillors to embrace people-centred leadership by listening to citizens, involving communities in decision-making and ensuring that public concerns are reflected in planning, budgeting and oversight.
The induction, organised by the Ministry of Local Government from 13 to 15 October 2026, brought together councillors, members of statutory bodies, technical staff and other leaders and administrators from higher and lower Local Governments in Masaka City, including Nyendo-Mukungwe and Kimanya-Kabonera Divisions.
