MASAKA CITY: The Minister of State for Local Government, Hon. Justine Nameere Nsubuga, has issued a strong warning to corrupt public officials, declaring that the Government of Uganda is entering a new phase of decisive action to dismantle corruption networks that have crippled service delivery across the country.
Speaking during the one-day anti-corruption engagement held in Masaka City, Hon. Nameere said corruption has become deeply entrenched through bribery and illicit payments, describing “envelopes” as a symbol of the vice that has undermined accountability and denied Ugandans essential public services.
“The envelopes have killed the system. We are going to crush those chains of corruption and set the system free,” Hon. Nameere declared.
She questioned the blatant misuse of public resources, citing cases where enormous sums of taxpayers’ money are reportedly spent without any visible results.
“How can you spend UGX 500 million on a bridge and there is no bridge? That is unacceptable. Ugandans deserve answers, and those responsible will be held accountable,” she said.
The Minister emphasized that the government’s anti-corruption drive, guided by H.E. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s directive, is no longer about issuing warnings but about taking firm action against those who abuse public office.
Describing the current government term as “Kisanja No Sleep,” Hon. Nameere stressed that there would be no room for complacency or leniency in the fight against graft.
“This is Kisanja No Sleep and no politeness. Enough is enough. Every public official must account for the resources entrusted to them. Our mission is to restore integrity, rebuild public confidence, and ensure government programs benefit the people they are intended to serve.”
