BUNDIBUGYO – The Bundibugyo District Education Officer (DEO) has been arrested following a surprise inspection by Hon. Balaam Barugahara at Bundikahungu Primary School, over alleged misappropriation of funds meant for re-roofing the school.
During the inspection, the Minister and his team discovered that the purportedly new roof was in fact made of old, rusted iron sheets that had been repainted to appear new.
“Government released money to buy iron sheets for this school, but the money never reached the school. Instead, they decided to paint the old iron sheets to deceive the government and our children,” Hon. Balaam told residents who had gathered at the school.
The Minister tasked the DEO to account for the funds and produce delivery receipts and proof of purchase. When he failed to do so, operatives from the State House Anti-Corruption Unit intervened and arrested him on the spot to assist with investigations.
The DEO is currently detained at Bundibugyo Central Police Station as detectives from the State House Anti-Corruption Unit take over the matter.
