Buhweju District is undergoing a sweeping accountability drive after the State House Anti-Corruption Unit requested Hon. Balaam Barugahara, Minister of Local Government, and the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Ben Kumumanya, to allow investigations into several senior district officials:
- Deputy CAO – Deputy Chief Administrative Officer
- Production Officer
- District Health Officer
- Town Clerk
- Senior Education Assistant
- District Physical Planner
- Internal Auditor
- Ass.Nursing Officer
- Health Incharges (2)
The move is part of an ongoing anti-corruption inspection in local governments aimed at restoring sanity and ending impunity in service delivery. Hon. Balaam has in recent weeks led similar operations in other districts, warning that “it is now very difficult for anyone to defend an officer before the minister.”
The shake-up comes just a day after Buhweju district engineers were also interdicted over alleged misuse of road funds, where an audit found that sh 30 million advanced for rehabilitation of the Kabuga-Rushambya-Ekikorijo road was not accounted for with works done.
The officers will remain out of office pending investigations.
