KIKUUBE DISTRICT, 11th OCT 2026 – It was an evening of joy and renewed hope at Kikuube Health Centre IV as the Minister for Local Government, Hon. Barugahara Balaam Ateenyi, visited the facility not only to assess service delivery but also to support expectant mothers.
Hon. Balaam, who is on the nationwide service delivery monitoring tour dubbed “Expose the Corrupt in Local Government,” arrived at the Health Centre IV to interact with health workers and mothers.
In a move that excited mothers at the maternity ward, Hon. Balaam delivered mama kits for expectant mothers, courtesy of the Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba. The kits contain essential items needed for safe delivery.
The Minister noted that many mothers struggle to afford delivery requirements, and the support from Gen. Muhoozi is aimed at ensuring no mother delivers without basic necessities.
He further promised to return with 1,000 more mama kits for the facility to support mothers across Kikuube District.
“I have come with love from the CDF, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba. He cares about mothers and he knows that a healthy mother means a healthy nation. Today we have brought some, and I promise to bring 1,000 more very soon,” Hon. Balaam said as mothers ululated.
During the tour, Hon. Balaam commended the dedicated health workers who continue to serve despite challenges. The facility, which is the district’s main referral centre, handles a high number of deliveries daily with a team of 8 Nurses, 5 Midwives and 4 Medical Officers.
The minister also noted two key areas that need urgent attention to improve services: the need for more staff to match the high demand, and the repair of the ultrasound scan machine which is currently not working and forces mothers to seek services in private clinics.
He assured staff that he will engage the Ministry of Health and the District Service Commission to fast-track recruitment.
