TUKAT, KWEEN DISTRICT – Hon. Balaam Barugahara, has visited Tuikat Health Center II in Tukat Sub-county, Kween District, and pledged to lobby for its expansion and upgrade to better serve the community.
During the visit, Hon. Balaam toured the facility, interacted with health workers and local leaders, and assessed the challenges affecting service delivery at the unit.
The Minister noted that while the health center has been instrumental in bringing primary healthcare closer to the people, it still faces critical gaps, notably lack of staff quarters and limited infrastructure to handle the growing patient population.
Hon. Balaam promised to engage the Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, to mobilize support for the construction of staff quarters and the expansion and upgrading of the facility.
“I have seen the need here. Our health workers need decent accommodation to stay close to the community they serve. I will talk to the CDF, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, to see how we can support the construction of staff quarters and the expansion and upgrade of this health center,” Hon. Balaam said.
Tuikat Health Center II was constructed by the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) Engineers Brigade and handed over to the community on 5th February 2022, as part of activities to commemorate the 41st Tarehe Sita anniversary celebrations.
The project was among the civil-military cooperation activities undertaken by the UPDF to give back to the community and strengthen the relationship between the army and the wananchi, while improving access to healthcare in the Sebei sub-region.
