MASAKA CITY – A joint inspection by Hon. Barugahara and Hon. Justine Nameere Nsubuga at Nyendo Health Centre III has uncovered allegations of corruption and mismanagement involving the District Health Officer (DHO), prompting immediate investigations by law enforcement agencies.
During the visit, the ministers were informed of claims that the District Health Officer has been fraudulently soliciting and accepting bribes in exchange for employment opportunities within the district’s health sector. The allegations have raised concerns over the integrity of the recruitment process and the management of public health services.
The inspection was also attended by the State Minister for Health, Hon. Anifa Bangirana, who strongly condemned the alleged acts of corruption. She described the reported sale of government jobs as an abuse of public office and a betrayal of the trust placed in public servants.
Hon. Bangirana directed the District Health Officer to fully cooperate with investigators and disclose all individuals believed to be involved in the alleged corruption network. She emphasized that the government remains committed to eliminating corruption from the health sector and ensuring that recruitment is conducted fairly and transparently.
The ministers further observed that Nyendo Health Centre III has an unusually high number of intern students while several permanent staff members were reportedly absent from duty during the inspection. The situation was described as one that could negatively affect the quality of healthcare services delivered to the public.
Following the findings, the ministers ordered the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID), working together with the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, to launch a comprehensive investigation into the allegations. The probe will focus on the reported sale of jobs, staff absenteeism, and any other irregularities in the management of the health facility.
