Nakapiripirit District – Senior Government officials visited Nakapiripirit District ahead of the distribution of life-saving food assistance to households affected by the prolonged dry spell across the Karamoja sub-region.
The delegation comprised the Minister of State for Karamoja Affairs, Hon. Esther Anyakun, the Minister for Relief, Disaster Preparedness and Refugees, Hon. Sam Engola, and the Minister for Karamoja Affairs, Hon. John Baptist Lokii. The visit was aimed at assessing preparedness for the relief food distribution exercise and reaffirming the Government’s commitment to supporting vulnerable communities.
Speaking at the Nakapiripirit District Headquarters, Hon. Sam Engola reiterated the Government’s commitment to ensuring that no one in Karamoja dies of hunger. He noted that the relief intervention forms part of the Government’s continued efforts to cushion households affected by the prolonged dry spell and called on all stakeholders to work together to ensure the exercise is implemented successfully.
Hon. Esther Anyakun, the Minister of State for Karamoja Affairs, emphasised the importance of accountability throughout the distribution process. She urged all officials involved to ensure that every bag of relief food is properly received, documented, and distributed in accordance with the approved Government guidelines to guarantee that the assistance reaches the intended beneficiaries.
The Government is expected to commence the distribution of relief food to affected families as part of its ongoing humanitarian response to mitigate the effects of the prolonged drought and strengthen food security in the Karamoja sub-region.
