The Ministry of Local Government (MoLG) has engaged the World Bank to conduct a technical assessment of the Natural Resources, Environment, Climate Change, Land and Water Programmes for Results (PforR) financing, aimed at supporting the Government of Uganda’s priorities under the NDP IV.
Chaired by the Permanent Secretary, the meeting brought together officials from MoLG and representatives from the World Bank to align on programme design and implementation frameworks. Discussions highlighted the World Bank’s three strategic pillars for delivering the PforR: investing in critical natural and physical infrastructure, fostering a business-friendly policy environment, and enabling large-scale private-sector investment to drive growth and innovation.
The proposed programme seeks to restore and improve forest cover, enhance climate-resilient nature-based tourism in wetlands, and strengthen governance systems to mobilise financing for climate-positive forest and wetland interventions.
MoLG is expected to play a key role in supporting sustainability and continuity through local government structures down to the grassroots level, ensuring effective implementation and long-term impact.
