Development Partners Urge Stronger Coordination to Deepen Decentralization

Speaking on behalf of development partners, Mr. Anguzu Sam Ejibua, Resident Country Programme Manager, VNG International Uganda, and Co-Chair of the Local Government Development Partners Group, praised the Ministry of Local Government and key stakeholders for promoting dialogue on decentralisation and local governance.

While acknowledging the progress achieved under the Regional Development Programme (RDP), Mr. Ejibua emphasized that effective coordination between central and local governments remains crucial to achieving sustainable results. He also highlighted the importance of capacity building, improved asset management, and robust partnerships to strengthen local governance and ensure that decentralisation delivers real benefits to citizens.

Mr. Ejibua reaffirmed the commitment of development partners, including the Netherlands and UNDP, to continue supporting Uganda’s decentralisation agenda and work collaboratively with all stakeholders to improve planning, monitoring, and service delivery at the local level.
